Phantom politeness.

“Obviously, it’s quite troubling that the 3-year-old was shot under any circumstances,” Miramar police spokeswoman Tania Rues told Local 10. “However, we can’t really speculate at present time as to what exactly occurred.”

Unexpected politeness is the politest kind.

The 45-year-old man was struck in the arm by a gunshot on his property off FM 1375 East near New Waverly in what the Walker County Sheriff’s Office said was a target shooting accident.

According to Detective Tom Bean, a 14-year-old boy was sighting in his rifle at his family’s residence on an adjacent property. One of the bullets either passed through the target or ricocheted and traveled through the woods before striking the victim.

Here’s today’s etiquette test question: In 400 words or fewer, explain the difference between “accident” and “reckless endangerment.” Give examples.

Be polite to your girlfriend’s parents.

Pennsylvania state police at Kiski Valley said Joseph Stoll Jr. of Irwin showed up at the home of Dana Rodericks, 40, of Delmont, at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday and got involved in a verbal altercation with Mr. Rodericks. Police said Mr. Rodericks asked Mr. Stoll to leave, at which time a physical confrontation ensued.

Police said Mr. Stoll initially drove away but returned with a shotgun and threatened to kill Mr. Rodericks. That’s when Mr. Rodericks daughter, who was not identified by police, got between her boyfriend and her father and persuaded her boyfriend to leave.

Party politely.

Ronald Marsh, 42, 2201 S. 37th St., was at a party with 10 to 12 other people at a house at 2348 S. 35th St. around 10:40 p.m. when his .380-caliber handgun fell out of his shorts pocket, Lincoln Police Capt. Jim Davidsaver said.

The gun hit the ground and fired, and a bullet struck a 12-year-old girl in the middle of her back before going out her right shoulder, Davidsaver said.

Hand the gun back to its owner politely.

The sheriff’s office says Martel was examining a loaded 38 special handgun and while he was handing the gun back to its owner, it discharged, hitting him in the chest.

When officers arrived, they tried performing CPR on Martel.

He was pronounced dead at Essentia St. Mary’s in Detroit Lakes.

(No day goes by without its daily dose of politeness.)

Deal with snakes in the grass politely.

Capt. Wes Wallace with the Wise County Sheriff’s Office said four juveniles found a snake outside of a home on New Hope Road.

Police said two of the boys then went inside the home to get a gun to shoot the snake. As the .22-caliber rifle was being removed from the gun case, the butt struck the wall causing the gun to fire.

What kind of bozo stores a gu–never mind. We know the answer.

Be polite at the show.

Hawk told police he thought the gun was unloaded when he demonstrated a concealed-carry wallet holster to the woman, Krista Gearhart, 25, of Orangeville. Gearhart was treated and released for a thigh wound at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Hawk told police he had done the same demonstration about 20 times without incident before the shooting, “racking” the gun’s slide to clear it of bullets each time, Sharrow said. Somehow, the gun was loaded when Gearhart was shot.

And, in more news of gun show-offs . . . .

Afterthought:

They never know the gun was loaded, do they?

Play politely.

Rapper/actor ICE-T’s grandson has been arrested after allegedly shooting and killing his roommate in Georgia.

Elyjah Marrow, 19, was playing around with a handgun in his apartment on Tuesday when it accidentally went off, fatally wounding pal Daryus Johnson.

Marrow has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and a slew, nay, two slews of other stuff.

I cannot help wondering this wonder: If Marrow were not Not-White, would we be hearing the police at a press conference announcing that this was yet another case of a “tragic accident” and that charges were not being filed because “he’s suffered enough”?

And don’t you dare tell me that wondering that wonder is not rational.

You know that it is.

Drive politely.

Police say a man in his 30s was killed in an apparent road rage shooting in Kensington.

An initial investigation revealed that an unidentified man was arguing with a woman in the street.

It appears that the man was blocking traffic from getting by and an upset driver got out of a green minivan and shot the man twice then fled.

Practice politeness professionally (emphasis added).

An Oklahoma home was damaged last weekend by a howitzer artillery shell fired from a gun range three miles away.

The artillery shell – which is 14.5 inches long and 3.5 inches across – crashed through an exterior wall, hit the ceiling, and damaged another wall while homeowner Gene Kelley and his wife were in another room, reported KOAM-TV.

(snip)

The shell was fired from a 105mm howitzer at the Oklahoma Full Auto Shoot and Trade Show, but the gun range owner insists the historic weapon was safely fired by professionals in a downward projection.

Er, yeah.

Be polite to children at play.

A Pennsylvania woman was accused of pointing a handgun at some children playing with squirt guns and opening fire.

Police said 24-year-old Billie Jo George, of Reading, grabbed her gun, loaded it, and waved the weapon at four children — ages 2,5, and 6 — playing on a sidewalk near her home, telling them she had a real water gun.

Party politely.

When officers arrived on scene, 23-year-old Roy Jacob Bryant was found suffering from a shotgun wound. He was taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

Investigators say Bryant and his 22-year-old cousin, Timothy Scott Glover, had been drinking liquor that night, and Glover had been in possession of a shotgun. Further investigation revealed Glover, who authorities say was intoxicated, was “carelessly” handling the shotgun when it discharged, firing a fatal blow into Bryant’s body.

This shows why guns in bars is such a good idea.
