Show courtesy to other drivers.

A 61-year-old man is expected to be charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of a Chicago man nearly 40 years younger over a traffic dispute.

If both drivers had fired guns and offed each other, the balance of politeness would have been maintained.

Gunnutery, life in the streets.

“My friends were standing right there in the yard and the guy came flying by and they were like ‘slow down, there’s kids’ and the guy did a U-turn and pulled over,” said Ashley Summerson, who was standing outside down the street when the gun went off.

After getting out of his car and waving around a gun, neighbors say the gun suddenly went off.

“Pulled his gun out trying to shoot one of them but he shot himself,” Summerson says.

“He was holding his groin and there was blood everywhere,” said neighbor Zach Watson.

There is a certain element of poetry in this.

Be polite to young entrepreneurs.

Authorities say a 12-year-old boy used a BB gun to rob a 10-year-old who was running a lemonade stand in western Pennsylvania.

In more news of the polite, courtesy is important to local governance.

A gunman blasted shots through the wall of a Pennsylvania municipal building during a meeting on Monday and then barged into the meeting room and continued firing, killing three people, before he was tackled by a local official and shot with his own gun, a witness said.

All seriousness aside, you do realize that, in the term “gun nut,” the operative word is “nut.”

Friends don’t let friends be impolite.

A man Cleveland man told police that he was shot in the chest after he tried to stop his friend from driving drunk.

(snip)

Java Bowling III, 43, said he got in an argument with 40-year-old Scott A. Campbell because he was trying to take away his friend’s keys to prevent him from driving while intoxicated.

Allowing concealed-carry in bars will prevent this from happening again.

Practice random acts of politeness.

A 21-year-old Tampa man was driving a 2005 Dodge Avenger south on Shayne Street about 11 p.m. when he noticed a green laser pointed at the car and then heard gunshots, Brooksville Police Chief George Turner said. The driver and an 18-year-old male passenger were not injured. The men did not call for help, but a resident called police after hearing the shots, and officers located the car.

My local rag revisits a Great Moment in Politeness, reporting on the attempt to identify whodunnit:

A bullet fell from the sky just before Fourth of July fireworks shot into the heavens.

Most likely fired by a reveler near the Swift Creek Reservoir, its ascent lost steam just as throngs were converging on the banks to watch the show. High in the darkness above thousands of heads, gravity turned the bullet back toward Earth.

Now, police are trying to trace its arc in reverse, from its stopping place – inside the skull of a 7-year-old boy – all the way back to the finger that pulled the trigger.

Jeff Artis, President Emeritus of the Roanoke, Va., Chapter of the SCLC, sees trouble zimmering*:

In the aftermath of this case, it amazes me how ignorant some of the supporters of Zimmerman can be. The history of this country teaches us one thing. If this can happen to one group, it’s just a matter of time before it happens to another group. In what universe is it OK for a private citizen of any color to patrol a neighborhood with a loaded gun? Remember your comments when a white kid gets killed by a wannabe cop, the police refuse to investigate, the wannabe cop claims self-defense when he’s eventually arrested because of public pressure and is eventually found not guilty.

Surprise strangers, courteously.

The sister of a slain Cleveland, N.C., man said her brother and cousin were “in the wrong place at the wrong time” when they were fatally shot as they left a home on Saturday night.

“They were leaving unarmed with my brother (and) another in the back (of a pick-up truck),” Kayla Redman said in an email. “My brother shielded the younger boy (and) took a bullet.”

Redman is the sister of Daniel Carlton Redman, 21, of 628 Cedar Glen Circle, who was found dead Saturday about 3.5 miles away from where the shooting began at a nearby house.
