Neighborly politeness.

Knight was preparing to clean his handgun inside his mobile home when it accidentally discharged, Snodgrass said.

The bullet went through the wall of Knight’s mobile home without injuring anyone. It traveled the distance between mobile homes, penetrated the wall of the neighbor’s mobile home, and struck the 15-year-old in the head while she was watching television in the living room, Snodgrass said.

If you are too stupid to clean a gun safely, you are too stupid to have a gun.

Be polite in the churchyard.

A 12-year-old North Carolina boy remains in critical condition after being shot in the head while playing on a church playground.

Three other teenagers were hit. Apparently, it was a random act of Second Amendment.

Another gun joins the politeness improv.

A 25-year-old Riverton man was accidently shot in the upper leg by his wife Sunday afternoon.

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office says the couple was target practicing with several friends near Hutchison Road when the 9mm handgun she was using went off striking the man.

Accidental politeness.

Iron County Central Dispatch received a report of an accidental hand gun discharge shortly after 8:00 a.m. Deputies from the Iron County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene and found 49-year-old Michelle Stebic with a self-inflicted gunshot wound on both of her legs. Stebic was reportedly examining the gun and thought the chamber had been cleared when it discharged.

I wonder what gave him away: the little fluffy white tail or the antlers.

Tommy “T.J.” Tucker, 37, of the Crane Hill community was pronounced dead at approximately 3:05 p.m. after being fatally shot when another hunter mistook him for a deer, near County Road 202 across from the Smith Lake RV Resort.

Early in his career, my brother lived in Vermont for a couple of years. They used to get hunters passing though. One day he told me of overhearing an exchange between two of them at a gas station. It went something like this:

“Did you bag anything?”

“No, but I got off a couple of ‘sound shots.'”

What, you may ask (he did) is a “sound shot.”

Another proponent of practicing self-politeness:

At approximately 1 p.m. this afternoon, authorities responded to the 1800 block of Laurel Road in response to a report of a person shot. When officers arrived, they found an adult male suffering from a single gunshot wound.

The man appears to have shot himself accidentally, said Gilham. No other injuries were reported.

Ohio House decides that schools should have a free pass for politeness:

A month after a local police officer and decorated combat veteran accidentally discharged his firearm in a school, the Ohio House passed legislation Wednesday that would remove liability for schools that make closed-door decisions about arming teachers.

Current Ohio law allows private and public schools to permit teachers to carry guns. It’s a local decision. The proposed law would allow them to decide in private who can be armed and protect schools from liability issues if there is an accident.

The story reports that every police organization in the state is against this law.

Words fail me.

Exercise courtesy in commerce:

The Howard County Police have confirmed that three people have been killed in a shooting at the Mall in Columbia. One of those killed is believed to be the shooter.

Police reported at 12:30 p.m that they are in the mall to clear people out safely and that the area is now believed to be secure.

Politeness means cleanliness.

A 25-year-old man was in stable condition at Salem Hospital on Wednesday evening after accidentally shooting himself while cleaning his gun, hospital and police officials said.

Another “gun enthusiast” too stupid to unload the damned thing before cleaning it.

Delayed dislike.

A Facebook post caused a shooting and police pursuit, which ended in an accident Wednesday night.

The Northwoods police chief says the incident started at a home in the 6600 block of Kenwood in Northwoods. He says three women and a man showed at the home and started shooting, because of a Facebook post from September 2013.

Accidental politeness.

Decatur police Lt. John Crouch says Cynthia Bowman told investigators she was holding a pistol that had been having mechanical problems when it fired without the trigger being pulled early Monday morning. Crouch says witnesses gave the same account of the incident.

This, gun fanciers, is why you never point a gun at a living creature unless you intend to use it.

Politeness should be a chief concern.

Shooting himself in the leg is not the way Connersville Police Chief David Counceller planned to promote his candidacy for Fayette County sheriff.

Counceller’s 40-caliber Glock handgun accidentally discharged Saturday afternoon while he was at Wullf’s Gun Shop. Counceller, who was off-duty at the time, said he’d been examining a handgun similar to the one he carries.

Pursue politeness, just because you can.

The gunman accused of chasing and killing a 21-year-old man at a west Orlando apartment complex on Thursday told police he was pursuing a suspected burglar and acted in self-defense after he was attacked.

According to the story, the shooter saw the guy, grabbed his gun, ran outside, and attempted to drag the fellow into his house. The fellow resisted, putting the shooter in fear of his life, so boom!

This makes sense only in the John Wayne fantasy world where gun nuts dwell.

Pursue small game, politely.

A 24-year-old Zeeland Township woman is in stable condition Saturday after being accidentally shot by her husband in a hunting accident, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

The woman, whose name was not released, was shot about 3:30 p.m. near Byron Road in Jamestown Township. Her husband, 27, was attempting to shoot a rabbit and did not see that she was in the line of fire, deputies said.

Be polite to yourself.

Just before 4 p.m. Saturday, Grand Rapids Police were called out to the 900 block of Maybelle Street Northeast.

They found one victim who had been shot. Police say the victim received a non-life threatening injury and was taken to a Grand Rapids hospital. It was later determined the injury was the result of an accidental self-inflicted shooting where the victim was struck in the leg.

And, in other news of the polite, . . . .

When Good Guys with Guns Go Bad Guy 0

A rarity.

Frederic Poag recounts how he lost his cool with a gun and nearly killed someone and how it changed his view on guns.

Aurora, and Sandy Hook are shocking tragedies on a mind boggling scale, but they’re poor examples to advocate for gun control. James Eagan Holmes, and Adam Lanza can be dismissed as outliers, crazies that can’t be stopped no matter how much gun control we have. Even in my worst moments I can say without a doubt that I’d never walk into an elementary school with a loaded assault rifle and mass murder little children. It’s inconceivable, and utterly unconscionable. And I’m definitely not the same angry person I was back then.

But I was almost Curtis Reeves. If we want to get serious about gun control that’s where our focus should be. Because when you stop respecting the power of firearms, when you forget that in a moment of anger after a tub of popcorn has been dumped on your head you just might reach for it because you’re a “good guy” and therefore have the authority to use it. That’s when your world ends with a bang.

Follow the link for the backstory. It’s powerful stuff.

Another clean-living polite parent:

Authorities say an 11-year-old girl has been shot in a leg after her father accidentally discharged a gun he was cleaning in Avondale.

According to the story, “the gun somehow went off,” apparently of its own accord.
