Ernest Hooper is optimistic.
A gun emboldens, so we end up with murders in movie theaters instead of an annoyed attendee changing seats.
He misses the point. There is an industry devoted to creating that mentality.
Gunnuttery has nothing to do with protection or rights. “Self-defense” is a smokescreen. The NRA (aka the “Firearms Marketing Group”) fosters the gun nut mentality, which is a weird combination of bone-chilling fear of Everyone in the World with a dash of High Noon, a hint of ED, and, in some cases, a dollop of sadism, so as to sell guns. Scaredy-cats are easy marks.
In gun nut world, fear is a marketing strategy.

Military Circle Mall is down the road a piece and to the right, across from JANAF and about two miles from Military Circle, which used to be an actual traffic circle. JANAF (which stands for Joint Army Navy and Air Force) was the first major shopping center in the area (JANAF fell on hard times, then successfully resurrected itself). I drive by there several times a week. It’s a fairly typical temple of the worship of acquisitiveness–hardly decrepit, but out of style.
The Penney’s is closing for its own reasons–Penney’s never matured past the 70s, but they still carry great Oxford-cloth shirts, which, I understand, are not favored by the polite.

Sixteen-year-old Shaleek Williams, a freshman football and basketball player, was shot on the campus of Salisbury High School on Monday afternoon.
Sources told WBTV the shooting happened while Williams was trying to break up a fight between two people.
Aside:
When I was growing up, a trip to Salisbury, Md., was always a big event. It was the nearest Big City accessible without a ferry ride.

Practice courtesy on the highways.
As the other driver, Leslie Larrison, 54, pulled in behind Brinkley, the two got into an argument. Brinkely went back to his car, took out a handgun and fatally shot Larrison.
Both of these upstanding citizens had kids in their cars, so an example of politeness was set.

Of course.
Tampa attorney Richard Escobar also maintained that Reeves was acting in self-defense in the Jan. 13 shooting.
Because picking a fight and then killing the person you picked it with is just how you roll in the gunshine state.
All snark aside, you must realize that these folks are sociopaths.
