Politeness must be inculcated from an early age.

A Sandy Springs toddler shot himself in the hand after finding a gun, Channel 2 Action News reported.

(snip)

“The father was fixing a toy and his girlfriend was on a laptop,” Sandy Springs police Capt. Steve Rose told Channel 2. “They were in bed, they hear a sound and go into another room where the child had shot himself with a .380 pistol.”

Lessons in politeness on this Eastertide:

Give children the opportunity to experience politeness . . .

The shocking death of a 4-year-old girl — shot dead with a handgun inside a car outside her grandparent’s home — zeroed in on two issues Sunday:

How did the gun that apparently killed little Rahquel Carr get into the hands of a group of children? And who owned the weapon?

A 6-year-old was found holding the weapon after the shooting. Police would not confirm if he fired the fatal bullet.

. . . extend a polite hand to your neighbors . . .

Residents of the Windsor Forest subdivision struggled Sunday to understand why, in this neighborhood of friendly people and community events, one of their neighbors would fatally shoot two other residents.

Police offered no new details Sunday about the shooting, and many questions remained unanswered. Cabarrus County Sgt. Dennis Gray said Sunday the office had no further information about the investigation.

Police said Anthony Charles Hardy shot and killed his neighbors on either side of his two-story brick home at 7795 Coachman Court on Friday.

. . . and to those you care about.

A man prohibited from possessing a gun was arrested by Mesa police and accused of manslaughter after he accidentally shot and killed his 18-year-old girlfriend.

Matthew Walsh, 23, purchased the .38 caliber handgun in a casino parking lot and was showing the gun to his girlfriend on March 13 when he accidentally shot her in the hip, according to a court document.

Be polite to your significant other.

One of the males, a 28-year-old, fired a shot, striking his own 22-year-old girlfriend in the neck.

She was transported to Episcopal Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The boyfriend told police he shot her by accident.

Had she been packing heat, she could have shot him back by accident, thereby restoring the balance of politeness.

Be polite to your neighbors.

A 67-year-old man accused of firing shots at homes in his northeast Tacoma neighborhood was arrested Tuesday night after an hours-long standoff with SWAT officers, authorities said.

Residents who dialed 911 described a man walking through the neighborhood, shooting at homes.

As an addendum to a much longer column about the Supreme Court hearing on DOMA (go read it, by the way), Dick Polman includes this delightful little observation:

Meanwhile, in other news, mass murderer Adam Lanza fired 154 rounds from his Bushmaster in less than five minutes. Or, as the gun-fetishists call it, Freedom.

That, my friends, is truly intense politeness.

A bumper day for the politeness Do Bee, who offers up three lessons.

1. Let no chance for politeness pass you by.

(The) incident started when two 20-year-olds in a vehicle on East Cherokee Drive spotted a black Lexus driving erratically, according to Lt. Jay Baker with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. The two females passed the Lexus, prompting that car’s driver to then pursue the women’s car for several miles, Baker said.

“Out of fear, one of the victims called a friend, advised him of the situation and asked if he would meet them on Apple Orchard Lane,” Baker said in an emailed statement.

The driver of the Lexus, later identified as Richard Wilt, 42, of Woodstock, followed the women to the Apple Orchard Lane cul-de-sac, where both vehicles stopped, Baker said. That’s when Wilt allegedly opened fire on the women, firing a round at their vehicle, witnesses told police.

2. Also, politeness is cool in school:

A young student at Soos Creek Elementary in Kent was pulling his jacket out of his backpack Tuesday afternoon when a gun fell out and hit the floor, according to the Kent School District.

(snip)

Loftis said the student, who he described as a very young child, did not bring the gun to school with the intent to harm anyone; it was just something cool he found at home.

3. Always be polite to the officer when he stops you for running a full stop (this fellow was quite determined to be courteous–follow the link):

Baldwin Park, known for large homes, walking trails and family-friendly special events, became the scene of a violent confrontation Wednesday when a 63-year-old driver punched and shot at a police sergeant who had written him a ticket for running a stop sign, investigators said.

Practice random acts of politeness.

An 8-year-old girl climbing on a play structure outside the Lawrence Hall of Science in the hills above UC Berkeley was hit in the leg with an arrow and hospitalized Tuesday, police said.

The girl was hit with a crossbow arrow about 10:10 a.m. as she was climbing a replica of a whale, UC Berkeley police Capt. Steve Roderick said. The structure is outside the public science center located at 1 Centennial Drive, above the campus.

I know.

Not a gun.

Still gunnuttery.

Teach the children:

A Georgia woman said Friday a teenager trying to rob her at gunpoint asked “Do you want me to kill your baby?” before he fatally shot her 13-month-old son in the head.

In other news of gun nut viagra:

A 12-year-old boy is dead after being accidentally shot by his 16-year-old brother, Orlando Police said.

It was the second time this week that guns wreaked tragedy in the hands of minors in Central Florida.

On Wednesday, a 4-year-old Pine Hills boy suffered a gunshot wound to his face in an apparent accidental shooting inside the condominium he shared with family members, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said.

Flooding the country with firearms will certainly ensure that these do not recur.

Treat your dorm-mates politely.

A University of Central Florida student who pulled a dorm fire alarm in the middle of the night had a more sinister plan than sending students scurrying out into the night, authorities said.

Campus police said Monday that 30-year-old James Oliver Seevakumaran – who shot himself in the head as officers arrived, before any other students were hurt – was armed with two guns, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, a backpack filled with explosives and a plan to attack other students as they fled the seven-story dorm where he lived.

Once everyone is packing heat, there is no chance that something like this can happen.

None. Zilch. Nada.

A woman was shot at dinnertime Monday along a bustling section of eateries in Land Park, an apparent bystander in an argument that suddenly turned violent.

Be polite in the big box.

Bucks County Coroner Joseph Campbell said Sunday that 58-year-old Mark McCarpy of Levittown died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.

Authorities say he entered Dick’s Sporting Goods in Fairless Hills after 7 p.m. Saturday and asked to see a shotgun and ammunition. McCarpy pulled out a handgun , later found to be unloaded , and ordered the worker to undo the shotgun’s gun lock. He then barricaded himself inside a bathroom.

Also, when you go to college, be polite to your roommates:

While UCF (University of Central Florida–ed.) police were on the way, officers received a 911 call for a male with a gun in the residence hall.

Police found the male dead from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. It was not immediately clear if the male is a student.

(snip)

Law-enforcement officers investigating the incident found a handgun, an assault weapon and and improvised explosive devices, a campus spokeswoman said.

Settle marital disputes, politely:

Daniel Ruth reviews the polls sampling public opinion about gunnuttery, then does the math:

But those figures, as well as at least 2,657 shooting deaths since Newtown, are irrelevant. Here’s the number that really matters: 255. That’s the number that means the probability of getting a truly rational gun control bill passed is about the same as Carnival Cruise Lines being named vacation destination of the year.

The 255 figure represents the members of the House and Senate who are card-carrying members of the quaint-sounding Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus, which is an L.L. Bean kind of way of saying these folks are the willing handmaidens of the gun lobby. Put another way, nearly half of Congress is a pretty reliable vote to kill or water down any effort to bring a pinch of coherency to the nation’s frothing gun culture.

More math at the link.

Be polite to those with whom you live.

Fulton police spokeswoman Melissa Parker told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the two roommates had been “arguing all day,” when one “finally just pulled a gun and shot the other.”

Bring this scourge to an end.

Mandating that every roommate pack heat seems to be indicated.

Resolve differences with your significant other politely.

County police Lt. Andrew Schurman said 25-year-old David Mazzocco, of Imperial, began shooting at the Fort Pitt Inn on Steubenville Pike moments after a heated text-message exchange with a girlfriend.

(snip)

None of the handguns was registered to Mr. Mazzocco, who county police said was barred from owning guns.

Police also found a fourth gun — a loaded AR-15 assault-style rifle — inside Mr. Mazzocco’s truck in the parking lot, Lt. Schurman said.

Always be polite to your friends.

He was shot by his friend, a 19-year-old man who remained on the scene and was taken into custody by police without incident. The friend told police he had been handling the gun when it accidentally went off.

I grew up shooting.

Really, now.

Guns may go off by stupid, but they don’t go off by accident. Accidents are not allowed.

If you want teh stupid, gunnuttery is teh stupid.

Guarding politeness in schools:

A New York town that began assigning an armed police officer to guard a high school in the wake of the Connecticut massacre has suspended the program after an officer accidentally discharged his pistol in a hallway while classes were in session.

You realize this won’t end the gun nuts’ gun fantasies.

The fetish is too overwhelming.
